Cultivating Resilient Community for San Luis Obispo County

Creating Togetherness through Local Food, Permaculture and Regenerative Living

OUR UNIFYING THEME IS CULTURAL, ECOSYSTEM, NEIGHBORHOOD, AND COMMUNITY RESILIENCY

Mission:
We restore our ecologies and our abilities to live in equitable, respectful, life-affirming, and sustainable ways for the longevity of our earth and lineages to come.

Vision: We look to preserve the natural and cultural heritages of our families, local native peoples and local ecosystems. We are anchored by the permaculture principles to find solutions to creating sustainable societies, economies and systems.

Permaculture goes beyond sustainability toward regenerative design.  Through ethical sustainable land stewardship and a relocalized economic revival we can remember our place in the natural order of things as a keystone species.
Where we may participate in—rather than damage—our planet’s ecosystems and the process of evolution itself.

Permaculture in SLO County is a regional initiative to create regenerative and thriving social, environmental and economic systems in San Luis Obispo County, California.

SLO Permaculture is dedicated to holding space for community members to share knowledge, build support and co-create the solutions for an abundant future. Uniting our group are the three permaculture ethics:
Care for the Earth, Care for People, Return of Surplus/Share the Wealth.

Let us know in the contact form if you have a permaculture or other related business in SLO County.  We can add you to our ever growing business directory.  We want to be a hub where you can find like minded permaculturists and get involved.

It's an important time to grow our own food, build community, connect to nature, improve our environment and live more regeneratively.  Permaculture and regenerative agriculture are a rapidly growing trend in San Luis Obispo County and we invite you to be part of it.

The SLO Permaculture Guild meets every Sunday to tend to our permaculture farm in SLO called Our Global Family Farm. Come tend the land together on Sundays, 9am to 1pm. We are located at City Farm.

Multicultural Communty Potlucks are held at the farm on the Third Sunday at 1pm.

Fruit Tree Care Workshops will be held at the farm on the Fourth Sunday at 1pm.

Land Acknowledgement for Chumash Peoples
We ask you to join us in acknowledging the Chumash Peoples, their Elders, their Tribes and relatives, as well as their future generations, as the First Nations that tended to this land.
We come together today to acknowledge, stand up for, and help give voice to, the unceded lands and waters of the Chumash people.
Let us all to reflect that these lands and the peoples of these lands that we live and work on are Chumash territories that have been taken away and that their cultural ways have been excluded and erased. The damage that has been done and continues to be done by not sharing the true history and legacy in this place and others, and by the exploitation of the Natural Cultural Resources of these areas, can never be erased.
Let us work together to prevent further damage to these lands and waters by supporting Chumash traditional stewardship practices on these lands and waters.

There are multiple ways to be allies and make sure we do our part to show our support.
You can donate to the Our Roots, Our Routes Living Histories of Belonging and Cultural Sustainability on the Central Coast, a multi-faceted project to gather the untold stories and document the varied cultural practices of our Indigenous, immigrant and ethnic communities, on their terms. Our vision is to create a greater sense of place-based belonging, representation, and connection among all Central Coast communities.

Please support the Chumash Heritage National Marine Sanctuary proposal to NOAA by the Northern Chumash Tribal Council, and to support the full sanctuary, not the one torn apart with the gap between Cambria and Morro Bay.

There is also a Land Back project with the YTT North Chumash Tribe for the Diablo Lands, or the Pecho Coast and is in their ancestral homeland. This nearly pristine 12,000 acres was taken from them in the 1700s without agreement or compensation. (That is what “unceded” means.) They are trying to purchase about 9,000 acres. Please email key California state leaders to support the return of Diablo Canyon Homelands to YTT Northern Chumash Tribe. Write to allocate State funds from SB846 that will catalyze the YTT tribe towards purchasing these lands.
