Locations for the 2015 Permaculture Design Course
In order to create the opportunity for participants to learn from the San Luis Obispo County Community and Land, each Saturday Session will be hosted at a different site around the county. Effort has been made to pair each unique location with the topic of that day's class.

Location: Kathryn Santoyo’s Home & Gardens
Description: Kathryn's upwardly mobile home is located on a private cattle ranch in the limestone hills of Arroyo Grande. When she first arrived at the approximately 3/4 acre site in the fall of 2004, it was completely barren, except for a patch of chaparral and oak woodland in a steep corner of the lot and, had been used as a dump site for tons of asphalt and sand years before. She brought in truckloads of woodchips, mushroom compost and other local organic matter to boost soil fertility and, according to a design by Larry Santoyo, an orchard was laid out on contour with urbanite terraces and, a front garden with water-harvesting spiral fractal beds was built as well. The site features greywater gardens, extensive use of recycled/repurposed materials (such as the carport chicken coop) and an evolving palette of edible and useful plants suited to drought conditions.
